Software Designer

About Kilgray

Kilgray is a privately held software company that celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2014. Kilgray is still run by one of the founders, and since its start it has matured from the proverbial garage shop to Hungary’s second fastest growing technology company, according to the Deloitte Technology Fast award.
Kilgray is the creator of memoQ, a computer-assisted human translation tool used by over fifteen thousand translators and hundreds of translation companies and enterprises, including Siemens, Sega, Infor and Hasbro. Tesco’s entire content and World Of Warcraft are both translated using memoQ.
We are headquartered in Gyula, Hungary, with offices in Budapest and in Germany, and people in Portugal, Poland, France, Canada, the UK and the US. We have a diverse team of over 70 people, and we use English as the main language to communicate.

The ideal candidate

Kilgray is not a risk-averse organization. We value initiative and appreciate the drive to try, fail, learn from mistakes, and try again. In a small organization like ours, individuals make a perceivable impact.
We're currently seeking a Software Designer to join our growing Design team in Budapest. As a Software Designer with Kilgray, you'll be working on a variety of design challenges and will be involved in early stage research and ideation, implementation and iteration. In a more traditional form the Software Designer task is to:
  • Design new functionality based on the product manager’s set of requirements. The output of the design process is a set of specification documents including user interface mockups.
  • Liaise with the development team to answer technical questions and make mid-process decisions during the implementation phase.
  • Perform pre-release acceptance testing of new functionality.
  • Update specifications if there is a detour from those during development.

  • Present functionality to customers in the form of webinars or conference talks
  • Talk to customers to learn about their needs, pains and understand usage patterns
  • Input into creating test cases
  • Understand customers’ translation and localization workflows
  • Counsel existing and prospective customers on translation and localization workflows

What do we expect?

  • Good learning and analytical skills (the SW designer will have to understand the logic of our software and its development)
  • Fluent English communication and writing skills
  • A basic understanding of memoQ (from our public materials available on
  • Experience with localization, translation is a plus but not necessary

  • Location:We think working together in the same office is both fun and efficient, although we do not have a water cooler as such at the moment. Our software designers and developers are located in Gyula, Budapest and Bonn, so ideally you are able to work at one of these locations, preferably in Budapest. We are open to discuss relocation or alternatives, as long as you can commit to spending time on a regular basis with the rest of the team.
